Timberline Opens New Junior Race Center

Timberline Race Team and Timberline Four Seasons Resort has completed construction of  Timberline Junior Race Center. The new building is located in the heart of the ski resort in the proximity of the ski lodge and the recently constructed Timberline Hotel and Suites. The center is slope side on the lower aspects of Winterset Trail.

The new center, which serves as a training facility for the race team, is already in full use as a control center for the coordination of the junior team’s rigorous weekly racing schedule.

Construction of the facility was done in cooperation between friends and family of the junior racers and Timberline Four Seasons Resort.

“It is for the kids” says  Jimmie Larch, a parent with a son and daughter on the Ski Team. Larch’s construction background and his earth moving equipment have kept the building project to stay on schedule. Dave Vernon, also a Ski Team parent, considers the center “…a great training opportunity for video analysis and ski tuning”.

Construction efforts of the facility were coordinated by Assistant Coach JR Nolan, who spear-headed the planning and the execution  of the facility.

Head coach Bobby Judy sees the future benefits for parents and children. Addressing the membership at an open house in the team building, Bobby said, “…with the efforts of the parents and the help of Timberline Resort, the Timberline Junior Race Team now has a facility that is unmatched in our region.”

According to general manager Tom Blanzy , Timberline considers promotion of the race team to be a high priority.  Speaking for the resort Blanzy expresses the extreme pride that Timberline has in the past and in the current achievements of the Timberline Junior Race Team.

J2 SARA Racer wins medals at 2010 Eastern Finals

Mallory Crandall won 2 medals in the Super G races held at Gore Mountain during J2 Finals.  Mallory placed 7th and 10th in the two races.  It was a proud moment for the SARA organization to see one of our racers on the podium not once but two times.  During the week long events,  speed intervals were set up.  During the Super G, a section called the “autobon”  was recorded.  Mallory had the fastest woman’s time in that section on the second Super G race.  The scoreboard would circle the fastest time of that day for men and women.  To have a Virginia racer on the scoreboard with the fastest interval was amazing.  Mallory loves  speed events so much that she wished there was a third super G race at finals.  Congratulations Mallory!
