USSA Age Classes

Effective beginning with the 2012 – 2013 season, USSA updated their age classes to drop the “J” designation and use the more common “U”(nder) age group nomenclature. The new groups are U21, U18, U16, U14, U12, U10, and U8 which refer to the age of the racer on December 31 of the racing season. Here is how the new age groups compare to the old:

U8 = 6 + 7 year olds (previous 1st year J6 and below)

U10 = 8 + 9 year olds (previous 1st year J5 + 2nd year J6)

U12 = 10 + 11 year olds (previous 1st year J4 + 2nd year J5)

U14 = 12 + 13 year olds (previous 1st year J3 + 2nd year J4)

U16 = 14 + 15 year olds (previous 1st year J2 + 2nd year J3)

U18 = 16 + 17 year olds (previous 1st year J1 + 2nd year J2)

U21 = 18 to 20 year olds (previous 2nd + 3rd year J1, added 20 year olds)

Masters = 21 years and older
